Artists

Names a guest can meet in one day from the ridge.

  • Heritage · 1912–1969

    Carlos “Botong” V. Francisco

National Artist for Visual Arts, 1973

The muralist of the republic. Fiesta, bayanihan, and the Filipino body at full scale. He found the Angono–Binangonan petroglyphs on a 1965 scout hike. The street still carries his reliefs.

Visit. Ancestral house, Doña Aurora Street — now a museum; grandson Carlos “Totong” Francisco II keeps the rooms.

  • Heritage · 1913–2002

    Lucio D. San Pedro

    National Artist for Music, 1991

Angono’s other National Artist. Kundiman and band music from the same lakeshore. The town’s claim as Art Capital rests on this pair: one brush, one staff.

Visit. Art Gallery of the Streets — clefs and bars of Sa Ugoy ng Duyan in steel, beside Botong’s bust.

  • Living / working · 1932–2008 · studio living

Jose “Pitok” V. Blanco & family

    Genre painting · three generations

Pitok and Loring painted the town they lived in — river, fiesta, wartime, children as models. Their seven children paint. The museum holds early work beside mature canvases. A family atelier, not a silent cube.

Visit. Blanco Family Museum, Angono poblacion. Call ahead. Higantes often stand at the gate.

  • Living / working · b. 1949

    Nemesio “Nemiranda” Miranda Jr.

    Imaginative figurism · sculpture

Born and raised in Angono. Figures from myth and news — diwata beside Marawi. The Art Haus is studio first, museum second. Ask if a demonstration is on.

Visit. Nemiranda Art Haus, poblacion. Gallery and working rooms. Children of the house also show.

  • Heritage · 1948–2013

    Perdigon N. Vocalan

    Painting · sculpture · table

Forest spirits, diwata, and the table as a gallery. Balaw-Balaw is still the lunch that sits inside a collection. Independent Angono painters hang here beside his work.

Visit. Balaw-Balaw, Doña Justa — restaurant-gallery he opened with Luzvimin in 1982. Ang Nuno Artists Foundation nearby.

  • Living / working · b. 1933

    Rafael “Paeng” Pacheco

    Palm and hand painting

Named with Angono’s creative sons. Known for painting with the palm. A reminder that the Art Capital is a lakeshore, not one street.

Visit. Rizal circle — often shown with Angono; studio history in Morong. Confirm before a side trip.

  • Living / working · Living

    Carlos “Totong” Francisco II

Steward of Botong’s house · Second Gallery

The grandson who keeps the rooms open: replicas, clippings, brass, the ordinary objects of a muralist. The house is the best first hour after the petroglyphs.

Visit. Botong residence, Doña Aurora Street.

  • Living / working · Living craft

    Higantes makers

    Papier-mâché giants · November festival

Paper, paste, and bamboo — the town’s own giants. Painters paint them; families keep the pattern. November is a pilgrimage. Book the ridge early.

Visit. Workshops around poblacion in the weeks before Higantes Sunday. Ask the tourism desk.

  • Over 500 painters, musicians, and makers call Angono home. The names above are the doors most visitors can still knock.
  • Houses are working studios. Greet, ask, and buy from the wall if you can. Locally Yours applies to canvas too.
  • Grupo Sining Angono and smaller ateliers open irregularly. We keep a current list at the deck — ask when you reserve an art-loop day.
